New GIG group in Denver!

January 9, 2011

Deanna Olson recently started a GIG group in Colorado. Inspired by her bold move to start a chapter from scratch I asked her what prompted her decision. The following is from and email she sent me:

Just over a year ago, I started a gluten-free social group. As our group grew and became more diverse, my dream of becoming a support group with a national organization grew as well. My work with iamgf gave me an opportunity to learn about each of the groups, and I quickly found that GIG (Gluten Intolerance Group) of North America was the right group for me.

Although becoming a non-profit support group means more work, I feel very strongly that this move is in the best interest of the gluten-free community and our members. Non-profit status has a list of advantages, like access to free meeting space, but working with GIG is the greatest advantage.

One of our major initiatives will be to build awareness among food companies and in the food service industry. Because the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO), Gluten-Free Restaurant Awareness Program (GFRAP), and Gluten-Free Food Service Accreditation are all GIG programs, our branch can jump into our major initiatives right away.

Having the most current, science based information is of critical importance, and knowing that GIG has my back when I need advice is very comforting.
GIG of Greater Denver we will be serving the greater Denver area and the suburbs. You can join us today and learn more by going to our event page
